Maintenance day

Today is the scheduled Daisy Donnie Maintenance day.
You didn’t get the email because that’s one of the bugs to fix (haha).
On the list of fixes for today:
1. Get the menu back into order now that the 2.8.4 wordpress update has broken MyCategoryOrder – fixed 2 sep 09

2. Get the menu to display a bit better. [...]

Those that can, do…

…those that can’t, teach.
After initially finding this amusing from the point-of-view of some of the less engaging seminars I’ve been to, back in the days when I worked full-time for the mighty dollar, now I find it a little questionable.
Bagging teachers seems to have become a spectator sport, with ongoing articles in newspapers (and here’s [...]

Reading Daisy Donnie

Okay, the first version of this was, shall we say, a little dull. It also lacked that special something that indicated it was written by me, and not a clapped-out Technical Writer who’d stumbled on this site with a view to organising it so the end-user could read the content clearly and unambiguously.
<klingon roar> Clarity [...]

That was hard work

The latest story – back to the wall – took a lot longer to finish than usual. Not sure why – the ideas weren’t coming as easily unfortunately.
But the story finished as it should… basically taking things in a completely unexpected direction.
The Daisy Donnie stories aren’t planned in any way, shape or form. They’re a [...]

Published = quality?

I’d like to pose a question:
Why is it that the sign of a good writer is whether you’ve been published?
Why do larger writing organisations demand that you’ve been published before opening their doors to you?
I see this as cultural snobbery, especially in light of the seemingly ignored issue that publishing – be it book, music, [...]

Busted again

The really useful My Category Order plugin is broken AGAIN with a Wordpress upgrade
I’m seriously beginning to wonder if Wordpress doesn’t like the plugin, because every single upgrade has broken this REALLY useful plugin.
And unfortunately, the creator of the plugin has said he’s not going to work on it anymore, favouring work on a new [...]

2-12:Back to the wall (Draft 02)

Tags: , , , , ,

Daisy stood among the crowd, Elvis nearby but not obviously, and watched the flames rise into the sky.
‘It’s started,’ she whispered.
The shopfront was collapsing, burned timbers cracking and cumbling under the strain. The sign collapsed to the ground and split in two:
The Sisterhood
Behind her was The BSD cafe-come-clubhouse. Men stood at the windows, some were [...]

Define Sci-Fi

When you say “Sci-Fi” — Science Fiction, most people conjure great ships travelling through space, visiting planets, shooting at one-another and generally acting as the clipper-ships of the future. They also think “How dumb!” (or at least some of the people I’ve been around, which might say more about my social circle than anything else. [...]

Google Analytics late at night

Tags: , , , , ,

It’s 11pm here in Melbourne, and what’s a girl to do?
Go to bed?
Watch another movie?
No.
I’m checking the Google Analytics for the site – the analysis of visitors and where they go. It works with a nice Wordpress Plugin called Google Analyticator, yet another of the myriad of free plugins for the system.
It’s interesting stuff, that-is, [...]

Monthly round-up

I’m hoping to do one of these posts every month to keep things up-to-date. The round-up is effectively sales-figures for the books, except I don’t get any money (as yet) and no trees are harmed.
I’ll also add the analytics report so you can see what’s going on (if you want). It’s all quite detailed stuff.
And [...]
