Daisy stood, twitching slightly, both eyes now open and jaw sagging.
‘Huh,’ she breathed at last.
‘I’m your guardian angel for this evening,’ said Elvis with a sideways grin that could look – on anyone else – like a sneer. ‘You should thank me.’
She stood, still dumbfounded, then closed her eyes as he kissed her.
‘And complement me on being a crack shot,’ he said, after disengaging.
Her eyes were closed and her mouth left slightly open. It closed as her eyes opened, a question on her face.
‘That junction-box was a bitch to hit,’ he said in explanation. ‘I knew the army would come in useful for something.’
‘And The Assassin?’
‘Dave,’ said Elvis. ‘He got a warning shot. I didn’t kill him.’
Daisy’s mind was doing backflips.
‘Dave?!’
Elvis kissed her again.
‘You left without saying goodbye,’ he said with a smile which had a hint of worry. ‘You didn’t think you’d get away that easily did you?’
‘Oh… Yes… Um…’
‘You’re soaked,’ he said. ‘Why don’t we get out of these wet clothes.’
They slowly lowered to the floorboards…
Bzornt!
She opened her eyes cautiously and was greeted by a lovely sunny day and the most gorgeous blue sky she’d seen in ages. She quivered from the still fresh memory of the last reality and bit her bottom lip.
She felt between her legs and all was well.
In the near distance she heard a little music, it sounded like a Motown hit; perhaps something by The Supremes.
Daisy sat up and immediately noticed the absence of a headache. And the jump sound had also been different; quieter and not quite so sharp.
So that’s what good sex felt like.
Wow!
A shadow crossed her legs. A man-sized shadow.
‘It’s about bloody time,’ said The Assassin.
