My Little Pony

The assistant watched their departure with only a raised eyebrow.

There was no way they could escape anyway, so what was the point?

Oh well.

He rallied the troops and they gave chase.

‘I hate kids,’ screamed Daisy, hanging onto Marcus’s neck.

‘Not so tight,’ he replied. ‘Breathing’s good.’

‘Sorry.’

‘You should thank me,’ said Marcus. ‘I’m now on the new King’s bad-list.’

Daisy chanced a look over her shoulder. The homicidal toddlers weren’t far behind and converging from other parts of the grounds.

‘Why did you come back,’ she asked.

Marcus didn’t answer for a few moments, then finally admitted, ‘I couldn’t do it.’

He cornered like a Ferrari and bolted up the hill toward the castle bakery, followed by a tsunami of pissed-off children.

The chief baker stood up, grabbed his cigarettes and lighter – the one with the astonished looking peacock on it – and walked toward the bakery doors. It was time for a break.

The doors crashed open suddenly, catching him unawares and full in the chest. He, his half-pack of cigarettes and zippo flew rapidly backwards, their flight terminating as they collided with a dozen sacks of flour stacked against the wall.

Flour filled the air.

Marcus and Daisy charged through.

‘There’s got to be another way out of this bloody place,’ said Marcus, now stopped at a T-Intersection just beyond the back doors of the bakery.

Daisy sneezed, her nose full of flour.

Marcus turned his head to the left. The honour guard stood, poised and waiting for them.

He turned and looked behind him. No exit there, either.

Daisy sneezed again.

He looked to the right. More kids. They looked very annoyed.

‘What are they waiting for,’ murmured Marcus.

‘My order,’ said The New King in an effeminate voice from above them.

‘Shit,’ said Marcus, as Daisy sneezed once-more. ‘Only one thing to do then.’

He reared and kicked at the bricks in front of him. They moved a little.
