My Little Pony

She started moving ever-so-slightly to the left.

‘The other way,’ hissed the bush.

She stopped and smiled at the man standing before her.

‘What was that?’ asked Robin.

‘Dunno,’ she answered truthfully.

‘Where was I?’

‘George and the dragon?’ she prompted and began to move to the right instead.

‘Hmmm… George and Mildred? he mused, ‘Samson and Delilah… Kermit and Miss Piggy… Abbot and Costello?’ he paused, brow furrowed and, thankfully for Daisy, with eyes closed.

She made the final step into the cover of the bushes, a couple more so she was well hidden and stopped, staring into the eyes of a quite pretty horse.

The horse gave her a look that could only be described as equine.

‘Don’t just stand there,’ he whispered. ‘Get on!’

Daisy quickly weighed her options and came to the conclusion that given the possibility of being rescued by an inept Hood, who couldn’t remember the tale of David and Goliath, was not quite as attractive as hopping on the back of a gorgeous horse that seemed somehow able to communicate.

It was every little girl’s fantasy.

As they moved slowly away, so’s not to make too much noise, Hood’s voice continued to rattle off famous couplings in the distance.

‘Jesus and Mary? Death and Destruction? The Duke and Duchess of Hay? Had something to do with a huge man and a slingshot didn’t it? Biblical story. What was it? Hey! Where’d you go?’

His voice echoed through the forest.

‘You got lucky,’ said the horse. ‘The forest’s infested with those idiots. Be glad you weren’t male.’

‘Ah,’ said Daisy with borderline understanding.

‘They always assume you’re the sheriff and take you to meet their merry men, if you know what I mean.’

‘Yeah?’
