The Middle Child of the Secret of the Lost Gavel

Hghrrr…Hghrrr…

‘Don’t mention it boy,’ said Rambozo and patted Donnie on the shoulder. ‘We’ll be on in just a jif. What’s that?’

Hghrrr…Hghrrr…

The buzzing sound was coming from Donnie’s boot. He retrieved his phone and read the text message there.

Need status – Have
U Found Lst Gavl?

‘Working on it,’ said Donnie as he typed the message.

‘I hope Raznou appreciates this,’ murmured Donnie, putting the phone back.

‘Oh certainly,’ said Rambozo, resting his hand on Donnie’s shoulder. ‘If he hadn’t died I’m sure he would have given his approval. Course, if he was alive, he wouldn’t need replacing.’

‘Ah,’ said Donnie.

‘Oh well,’ said Rambozo with a tight smile.

‘Listen,’ said Donnie, remembering the real reason he was here. ‘You know anything about a Lost Gavel?’

Rambozo’s hand tightened on Donnie’s shoulder.

‘How do you know about that,’ asked Rambozo quietly.

‘Um, it’s one of the last things Raznou said before he died,’ said Donnie paraphrasing. ‘He said you knew something about it.’

‘Don’t push too hard Donnie,’ murmured Prime, a finger to her ear. She could hear the whole conversation.

‘What’s up,’ said Elvis, sitting back down next to her. He had a large bucket of popcorn between his legs and was trying to find a spot for the oversized container of Coke.

Ding, Ding!
Round One…

‘Come on lad,’ hissed Rambozo from outside the ring, reaching in and trying to reach Donnie’s outstretched hand.

‘I think my shoulder is about to come out,’ gasped Donnie, just able to speak past the canvas.

‘That’s cos you’re a bloody weakling, Penfolde,’ declared Freddy, dressed in electric red with a horned mask over his head. He twisted Donnie’s feet over his shoulder as if they were made of rubber.

‘Remember Raznou’s Twister-do,’ hissed Rambozo. ‘Twist like you’re trying to get your hand on the red in the corner.’

Before Donnie’s mind’s eye, Raznou’s famous twister-do contortion was replayed.

Raznou looked up into Donnie’s eyes.

‘Ja, like this!’
